“Don’t you wish you could take a single childhood memory and blow it up into a bubble and live inside it forever??”
Sitting in the balcony with a cup of my ginger tea, I saw the kids from the neighbourhood playing in the garden. I could see them running around, riding bicycles or playing cricket.
This scene reminded me of my childhood days and brought a smile on my face instantly.
It is rightly said that ” The Childhood days are the best day of anyone’s life “. There were no worries and responsibilities, no fear of taking risks and the daily celebration of every bit of life. As we grew up, we got busy with other stuff in our life to cherish those little things.
Today, if I recall, here are the few things which we used to do in our childhood. Those who were born in late 80’s will definitely relate to these.
1- Making Paper Boats during the Rains
During the rainy season, when we could not go out to play, we used to make paper boats and sail them in the puddles of water.
2-Watching Cartoons
The TV, that time, did not offer such a genre of shows, unlike these days. Doordarshan being the Primary Channel, there were few shows which were enjoyed only over the weekend and some of the popular cartoon shows were Tom and Jerry, The Jungle Book and Duck Tales.
3- Paper Games
There were some games which were always fun and enjoyed even by the elders in the family, Chor-Sipahi , Dots and Lines and TicTac Toe to name a few.
4- Remote Fights
The siblings fight to keep the remote even if watching the same TV show or movie was a daily affair. The one who kept the remote was somehow the superior (in the innocent minds of children).
5- Reading Comics
Most of us would have hidden comics inside our textbooks to read stories and not a day passed without reading the favourite comics like Chacha Chaudhary, Champak and Tinkle.
Today I think, those interesting stories developed my liking towards reading and I am an avid reader now (not comics though :P)
6- Storytelling
Every night we used to listen to stories from grandparents, before going to bed. There were times when we would listen to the same story 100th of time, but with no less enthusiasm and excitement.
7- Playing Mario
It was one of the retro versions of what today the Playstation(PSP) is.
8- Simple joys of Life
In Our Childhood, we were not pressurized, so much, to get the First rank. We studied hard to get good marks but there was no race. We enjoyed the simple joys of Life. From having the raw mango to playing hide-and-seek; From hitching a ride on Dad’s shoulders to sleeping with grandmother listening to her old tales; from dancing in the rain to swinging in the playground.
I think it’s time to go back home to parents because Childhood is the most beautiful of all life’s seasons
What are your memories of your childhood? Do share !
This post is written as a part of the picture prompt #Friday Reflections hosted by Sanch of Living My Imperfect Life and Corrinne of Write Tribe.
so many of those memories match my own childhood – I love the simpler times and how easy things were. I don’t want to go back to being a child again, but I hope I gave my own children some of those memories to cherish too.

I’m reliving my childhood through my gorgeous two year old grandson’s eyes. He certainly makes me stop, breathe and enjoy the moment. Swings always bring back such pleasant memories of my childhood – I think most people feel that way. Lovely post thank you. #FridayReflections

Age is just a number, as they say. Childhood is childhood no matter what’s our age today. Don’t you think so Corinne?? 🙂

Yes. Another favorite cartoon was Captain Planet and the Planeteers. 🙂 On one occasion, Cartoon Network had streamed the cartoon the whole day, and I watched every episode with my sister.
Paper boats in the rain, playing on the swing, remote fights, reading comics (Archies, Tinkle, Amar Chitra Katha… oh the joy!), Mario and Luigi on a DOS based system… your post brought back so many beautiful memories. 🙂 thank you very much.

Reads this and wonders to himself- Surprisingly that every kid pretty much does this. All are same. That said, I still jump in puddles, play see-saw, and watch cartoons whenever I can. But the most I miss is storytelling from elders 🙂 Nostalgic. Best Wishes.
